Teeth Whitening

teeth-whiteningEven the most cautious and thorough patients who maintain a rigorous oral hygiene regimen, eventually notice staining and yellowing has occurred. The discoloration can be credited due to the inevitable, aging process, favorite, highly staining, beverages like coffee and red wine, smoking, and a wide variety of other causes and factors. Unfortunately, stained teeth can destroy the appearance of an otherwise beautiful, healthy smile. As a solution we offer in-office teeth whitening at our Staten Island, New York practice. Our in-office treatment significantly improves the appearance of teeth in just one easy visit, providing our patients with a less invasive way of achieving a full smile makeover. If you are worried about any tooth or gum sensitivity, Dr. DiCicco and Dr. Intatano can be your number one resource and guide. With proper maintenance, results can extend beyond a full year. Please call the office if you have any other questions or concerns or if you’d like to schedule your teeth whitening appointment.

Porcelain Veneers

porcelain-veneersOne of the most versatile and personalized cosmetic dentistry procedures available, porcelain veneers produce whiter, straighter teeth, and even fill in gaps between teeth and reach hidden space for a full smile. Porcelain veneers are thin pieces of porcelain used to recreate the natural look of teeth, while also providing strength and resilience comparable to natural tooth enamel. It is often the material of choice for those looking to make slight position alterations, or to change tooth shape, size, and/or color.

A thin shell of ceramic material, a porcelain veneer is bonded to the outside of each tooth. In most cases, your existing teeth remain largely intact when we apply porcelain veneers. With some brands of porcelain veneers, we may be able to maintain the entire tooth, such as with LUMINEERS®, for our Staten Island, New York residents looking for a strong, safe, durable, and, best of all, quick way to have beautiful, white teeth should investigate this option.

Since veneers are individually sculpted for each patient, it is nearly impossible to tell the difference between a veneer and a natural tooth. Unlike natural teeth, custom-made veneers resist coffee and tea stains, and cigarette smoke because they are made of high-tech materials.
With veneers—as opposed to crowns—your natural teeth remain largely intact with only a minimal amount being altered to fit the veneer.

Instant Orthodontics

instant-orthodontics

“Instant orthodontics” refers to a special technique performed by our cosmetic dentists that can quickly, easily, and painlessly straighten your teeth. Innovative dental technology allows uneven teeth to be reshaped and laminated with high-tech ceramics. We call this method instant orthodontics, using veneers or laminates instead of braces to make teeth appear straight. It can close off large gaps and fix some overcrowding in as fast as 1-2 days. Typically a pain-free procedure requiring only the use of local anesthetics, instant orthodonics bears the name for a reason.

You are a candidate for this if you would like your teeth to look straighter and cannot commit to the time allotted for conventional braces and long-term aligners. Although this approach is effective, the level of efficiency will depend on the severity of the crowded and crooked the teeth in the mouth. Some cases require a combination of limited orthodontics and ceramic enhancement to be the best choice. Many people would like to finally correct their smile with straighter teeth, but are not interested in spending years in uncomfortable, hard to manage braces, or even the seemingly-invisible Invisalign® aligners. Porcelain veneers are an excellent alternative for our cosmetic dentistry patients in the Staten Island, New York area who are able to successfully have straight teeth without enduring braces or aligners, by utilizing instant orthodontics.

Drs. DiCicco and Intatano will apply porcelain veneers at their Staten Island, New York office, and after just a few visits, you will have teeth that appear straighter and a smile that will “Wow”!

Having a beautiful, straight smile can be attained in one single appointment instead of over the duration of months or even years.

Invisalign® Invisible Orthodontics

To most people, the word “orthodontia” means one thing: a mouth full of metal! Now, there is a way to straighten your teeth (FYI: orthodontia actually means “straight teeth”) without having the infamous “tin grin” of braces – enter Invisalign®.  Our Staten Island, New York practice is very pleased and proud to offer Invisalign® , invisible orthodontics to our patients.
invisalignWhen you decide to have your teeth straightened with Invisalign®  at our Staten Island, New York office, we will begin the process by taking impressions of your teeth. These impressions will be used by Invisalign® to create a series of clear, plastic aligners that will slowly, surely move your teeth into a more ideal alignment. You will update to a new set of aligners about every two weeks to accommodate the shifting of your teeth into position. You are suggested to wear your Invisalign® aligners all the time/as often as possible, except while eating or drinking. Invisalign® treatments last roughly the same amount of time required for traditional braces.

Some patients even choose to undergo teeth whitening during their Invisalign® treatment to achieve both straighter and whiter teeth and optimize their overall health and oral beauty.

Dental Implants

implantsDental implants are a permanent solution to the replacement of missing teeth. Many patients consider them superior to other treatments for missing teeth, as implants offer more structural support and last longer than dentures or bridges.

A dental implant is a surgical component that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an overall orthodontic anchor.

The  fixture is first placed, then a dental prosthetic is added. In each case an abutment is attached to the implant fixture. Where the prosthetic is fixed, the crown, bridge or denture is fixed to the abutment with either lag-screws or cement. Where the prosthetic is removable, a corresponding adapter is placed in the prosthetic so that the two pieces can be secured together.

Dental implants are attached to the patient’s bone, providing them with greater stability and a more natural looking appearance. The dental implants treatment is typically performed in three stages…

  1. The titanium implant is inserted into the jaw bone.
  2. The patient goes into a healing period, which allows time for the bone to grow around the implant.
  3. The replacement tooth is attached to the implant.

At our office, we use natural-looking restorations so no one has to know you underwent dental work.

Cosmetic Bonding

cosmetic-bondingA simple way to improve the appearance of your smile, cosmetic bonding uses a natural-looking material to fill in gaps between teeth and to repair chips, breaks, and cracks. Bonding is the application of a tooth-colored composite. Unlike veneers, which are manufactured in a laboratory and require a customized mold to achieve a proper fit, bonding can be done in a single visit. The procedure is called bonding because the material bonds to the tooth.

Bonding does not typically require the removal of any tooth structure, making it an acceptable alternative to crowns or porcelain veneers. The composite material used for tooth bonding at our cosmetic dentistry practices in Staten Island, New York comes in many different shades so it can be matched precisely to the color of your teeth. The result is a natural-looking means of restoring your smile that can be completed in a single appointment. To learn more about cosmetic bonding, please contact us today!

Tooth-Colored Crowns

tooth-colored-crownsDamaged and decayed teeth can be effectively restored with tooth-colored crowns. A crown is a permanent covering that fits over your original tooth. This restores health and strength. We use crowns matched to your natural tooth color, which improve your smile’s appearance as well as your overall dental health. Crowns can be used to whiten, reshape, and realign teeth as well as to repair and correct any damage. We can make custom crowns for you in just one appointment for a very quick, personalize treatment plan and experience. To learn more about crowns, please contact our cosmetic dentistry practice today!

Dental Bridges

Missing teeth can create a host of aesthetic and functional problems, but bridges can be used to restore health and beauty to your smile. A bridge consists of a replacement tooth and two crowns that can be fitted over the adjacent teeth. Bridges can prevent teeth from shifting and improve the aesthetic appearance of your smile. Drs. DiCicco and Intatano use tooth-colored bridges for the most natural-looking results.

Mercury-Free Restorations

Staten Island Dental Group of Staten Island, New York made a choice to stop using “mercury-containing” fillings. Although these “silver” fillings were easy to use and relatively inexpensive, they had a nasty habit of breaking many of the teeth in which they were being placed. Mercury is the silver liquid that we see in thermometers. As it heats up, it expands. As it cools down, it contracts. This expanding and contracting also occurs in the fillings in your teeth as you eat hot and cold foods causing this reaction to increase frequently.

Eventually, all of this expanding and contracting causes cracks to develop in your teeth. When “silver fillings” break a tooth, the tooth usually requires a crown or CEREC® all-ceramic onlay for a repair. Most of the crowns or CEREC® onlay restorations that we do at our cosmetic dentistry practice today are to repair teeth with old silver fillings.

Most of the tooth-colored restorations that are made in our cosmetic dentistry office are made by our computerized milling machine, the CEREC® 3. This little robot can actually replace just the broken part of your tooth without destroying any additional sound tooth structure. The technology is astounding!

First, a digital radiograph of your broken tooth is taken. This is needed to determine whether a crown or a CEREC® restoration is the best way to restore your tooth. If a CEREC® all-ceramic restoration can be used, it will take only one appointment to repair your tooth. The digital picture is an effective way to capture the broken tooth. The computer then designs a replacement portion for your tooth and the milling machine will carve an exact replacement for the missing part of your tooth. This usually takes approx. 10 minutes. This precision tooth-colored ceramic repair is bonded to your natural tooth and you are set to go.

You can resume your normal chewing, brushing, and flossing activities immediately.

At our cosmetic dentistry office in Staten Island, New York, we recognized the problems with these mercury-containing fillings, and try to help you avoid the problems of unexpected tooth breakage. At your cleaning and exam appointment, we use our computer imaging, and intraoral camera to help locate and evaluate the cracks in your teeth. If they look dangerous, we will recommend a crown or CEREC® restoration to protect your tooth. To learn more about mercury-free restorations, please contact us today!

CEREC®

cerecMaking porcelain veneers, inlays, onlays and crowns was a involved and intricate process. In the past, your dentist had to take impressions of your teeth, and send them off to a dental lab, where the restoration would be crafted and created. You would have to return to the dentist’s office to have your restoration installed.

Now, with revolutionary, new CEREC® technology, we can develop inlays, onlays, crowns, and porcelain veneers at our in Staten Island, New York offices, allowing your dental work to be done over the course of just one single office visit.

We take digital impressions of your teeth, which the CEREC®  machine uses to design and mill a restoration, custom made to suit your needs and to perfectly match the color of the rest of your teeth. If you are unhappy with the color of your teeth, we can first perform teeth whitening at our in Staten Island, New York cosmetic dentistry office, and then have the restoration fabricated to match the new shade of your teeth.

cerecWhile the Wand may not cause rabbits to pop out of hats, some swear it does magic! The Wand is an anesthetic delivery system controlled by computer. It provides patients with a consistent amount of numbing without the usual discomfort or shots. Because the Wand is handheld, our cosmetic dentists Drs. DiCicco and Long can precisely control the amount of anesthesia you receive.
